Overview
The
MSC-TC is a "smart" conditioner that performs linearized temperature
measurement with thermocouple sensors in a small, DIN rail mount, terminal
block. It provides high accuracy with digital Cold Junction Compensation and
low drift digital calibration using 16 bit digital to analog converters. It
occupies a small space on the DIN rail with a size of only 22.5 mm. A
DC Power Supply is available for this unit.

Complete Digital Design
The MSC-TC is built around a microprocessor core
which controls all device functions in a continuous and reliable manner. The
analog input signal is isolated, filtered, amplified, scaled and/or linearized
via the onboard microprocessor. The conditioned signal is then converted to a
high level analog voltage or current output signal and sent to the unit's
isolated output. All MSC models provide 16-bit resolution and 0.05% accuracy of
the output signal range.
A complete digital design replaces
potentiometers and dip switch calibration with SensorPulse's SigFlex
Configurator Utility. This MSC unit may be reconfigured by a user at any time
via their personal computer (PC) or handheld personal computer (HPC).
SensorPulse's SigFlex Configurator Utility is Windows/PC or Windows/CE HPC
based, interfacing the MSC unit to the computer's RS-232C comm port with an MSF
Configuration Cable (sold separately). All setup parameters are stored in a
non-volatile EEPROM. Configuration files can be saved to disk for backup and
restoration of field settings.
The unit can be configured to accept input
from a wide range of thermocouples. The unit allows the user to meet their
unique signal conditioning "plug 'n play" requirements. Optionally, the MSC
signal range can be reconfigured in the field to meet custom configuration
needs.
Through the use of the digital solid state
cold junction compensation and the unit's self-calibration operation, the MSC-TC
guarantees an accurate and stable measurement. These functions protect the unit
from the usual variations caused by circuit parameters.
Construction
The MSC-TC provides three-way isolation between the input, output, and power
supply. The 1500 V galvanic isolation removes all ground loop effects. This
allows use of the MSC-TC in the heavy environmental conditions found
in industrial applications.
The MSC-TC is developed, manufactured and
tested in strict accordance with the quality assurance standards. It is in
compliance with the directive 89/336/CEE on the electromagnetic compatibility
and the CE mark confirms the compliance of the product. The unit is also UL and
CSA certified.
Each DIN rail mounted MSC module is contained
within a small profile terminal block (88mm x 68mm x 12mm). The enclosure is
made of a rugged, self-extinguishing plastic. No heat sink is required.
Output
Both Voltage and Current output models are available
with programmable
"Upscale" or "Downscale" Burnout detection and short circuit protection.
Set Up
All the configurable functions, parameters, and calibration are easily programmed by means of a
Windows PC software package, named SIGFLEX. More information on this software is
available on the CONFIGURATION tab.
All units are factory
calibrated and configured per user requirements. Installing the MSC unit is
easy…snap the 12mm wide enclosure to a DIN rail, supply an external 15-30Vdc
power source, connect the analog input device and analog output range actuator.
